Obituary for Richard James "Skates" Slack
Richard J. Slack, 63, of Lambertville, NJ, died on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at the Valley View Care Center in Frenchtown, NJ.
Born in West Amwell, Richard was a lifelong Lambertville resident. As a young man, he was an accomplished roller skater and participated in area roller derby competitions. He was known to family and friends as “Skates”. He was a bartender at Mitchell’s Café in Lambertville and earlier worked at the Union Camp Paper Bag Mill in New Hope and the York Luggage Company in Lambertville.
Richard was the son of the late Vera Slack Sabo, the grandson of the late Louis and Vera Slack and the nephew of the late Lewis Slack and Anna Reeves. He survived by his brother and sister-in-law William H. and Sharon Slack of Clermont, FL; his nephew Kenneth Slack of Clermont; his uncles William H., Robert C., and Kenneth P. Slack; his aunts Alberta Linico, Frances T. Blackwell and Ida Rudock and a large extended family.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ. There will be visitation on Thursday evening from 6:30 pm until the start of services.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad, PO Box 237, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
