HERBERT DWIGHT RAYMOND, III
1942 - 2016

Herbert Dwight Raymond, III, of New Hope, Pennsylvania, age 73, died peacefully on February 15, 2016, at Capital Health Hospital in Hopewell, New Jersey. Born in San Diego, California; Dwight graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1960. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in June in the Class of 1964; and was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps. He attended The Basic School at Quantico, Virginia, as the class of 2-65. He completed basic officers training and was assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron-3; and became a qualified Air Defense Control Officer and a Tactical Data Systems Programming Officer. He joined MACS-4 on Monkey Mountain in Danang, Vietnam, in September 1968; as an air defense crew leader and MTDS maintenance officer. He received a Bronze Star with Combat V for his work at MACS-4 and for participation in Rolling Thunder operations. Dwight returned to the USA in October 1969, and was assigned as the Assistant Marine Corps Test Director at the Joint Interface Test Force in San Diego, California. He resigned his commission in June 1972 in the regular Marine Corps; and joined the Marine Corps Reserve. In the Marine Corps Reserve, he held various assignments with the 4th Tank Battalion, 16th Staff Group, the National Defense University; and retired from his last duty as Commanding Officer of Mobilization Training Unit CA-53 at the Naval Base in Coronado, California, retiring with rank of Colonel in July 1994, after 8 years of active duty and 22 years in the reserves.

In the civilian community he was one of the founders and a vice president of Command, Control and Communications Corporation (4C); working on various projects for 13 years. He also received a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California. Dwight worked as an associate vice president for Aydin Corporation for 10 years from 1988 – 1998; and completed his engineering career with Lockheed Martin in Moorestown, New Jersey, as a Principal Member of the Engineering Staff for 15 years; until his retirement in 2013.

Dwight is survived and sorely missed by his wife and partner of 26 years, Geraldine; he was the devoted father of H. Dwight Raymond IV, Woodland Hills, California, Gregory Raymond, San Diego, California, and Wendy Raymond Aranda (husband Sam), Newbury Park, California; cherished grandfather of Jeffrey Raymond (San Diego) and Tyler Raymond (Woodland Hills); brother of Charlene Palmer, Gaithersburg, Maryland and Diane Voca, Orlando, Florida; and uncle of Melissa Truffer of Urbana, Maryland and Shane Leiby, Orlando, Florida. He was the fun and loving brother-in-law of Pamela Crilley Ross (James Schiffer) and Joseph Crilley (Leslie), New Hope; and Candace Haynes (Frank) of Penndel, PA.

Friends and relatives are invited to a celebration of Dwight’s life on Friday, March 18th, receiving visitors beginning at 11 a.m., with a memorial service at 12 noon; at the American Legion, Edgar H. Denson Post 79, 41 New Street, New Hope. Interment with military honors will follow at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery for Veterans in Newtown. A memorial service for Dwight will also be held in April in San Diego, California.
