The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Paul Hess can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolences

Condolence From: Tom Watts
Condolence: Mr. Hess deserved a better student than me. I was a hot-headed, ungrateful, ignorant kid when I walked into his classroom. He recognized that I had a bit of talent and despite my open hostility to authority and school in general, he fostered that talent. I never got the chance to apologize to him for how ungrateful I was for his help and all of the work he put into all of us. I hope somehow these words find there way to him, or those who loved him. He was the best teacher I ever had, and despite pursuing art in college and professionally, the techniques he taught me are still the ones I use most today. More importantly he taught me that if you put positivity out into the world, even if it goes unrecognized at the time, it can still have an enormous impact. People celebrate athletes and movie stars endlessly despite many of them being awful people. They should celebrate Paul Hess and others like him, he was a great man.

Condolence: Mr. Hess was my favorite teacher and a real influence on me. Although I didn’t go to art school, I internalized his art lessons into other aspects of my life — especially the lesson that nothing is ever ruined as long as you keep working on it and letting it evolve. I’ve returned to writing and art many years later, and would never have been able to do this without Mr. Hess’ initial guidance and instruction. I’ll always remember him.

Condolence: We remember Paul from church and also social gatherings. He was always up for conversation and to lend a hand. Paul was devout in his religious belief. He was devoted to his dog and took it everywhere with him. He will be missed. RIP Paul
