Obituary for Robin Diana Lyra-Siano

Robin Diana Lyra-Siano
Robin Diana Lyra Siano of Lambertville, New Jersey, died on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at her home.

Born in San Francisco and raised in California and New York City, Robin moved to Lambertville in 2003 with her beloved late husband John Joseph “Jay” Siano. Robin studied at The School of Visual Arts in New York City, earning a B.F.A. in fine art. From a young age, she showed exceptional talent as a painter and artist, and in recent years she combined her artistic gifts with her love of animals, creating a series of captivating portraits of cherished pets through Robin Lyra Fine Art Animals.

Robin worked as a bartender at several famous nightclubs, including the Cat Club--where she and Jay first met—Beulah Land, and Kenny’s Castaways in New York City, and the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, where she formed friendships with musicians, comedians, actors, and artists. As a young woman she toured with the influential rock band Delaney & Bonnie.

Robin was known for her beauty, her vivacity, her generosity, and her deep kindness. She had many lifelong friends who considered her a true kindred soul. She was a spectacular cook who loved cooking for her friends and family.

Robin is the daughter of the late Laura Cecilia Lyra Elgin of Lambertville, New Jersey and Marconi Cavalcanti Lyra of Recife, Brazil. She is pre-deceased by a half-brother Morse Samento Pereira de Lyra. She is survived by two half-sisters Gabriela Marques Lyra and Sylvia Helena Marques Lyra; by her paternal cousin Alcebiades de Melo Lyra; her maternal cousin Robert Quackenbush; a nephew Joey Spinelli; her godchildren Charles Hannaford, Marlene Ehrler, and John Robert Tempio; her beloved Jack Russell terrier Stella; and her many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday morning, February 15th at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York St., Lambertville, NJ. The service will be led by Rev. Richard Townley of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, who also married Robin and Jay. A procession to Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan, NJ will depart from the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m.

There will be calling hours at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 9 am until the start of services.

Donations in Robin’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 84 Park Avenue, Flemington, NJ 08822.
