Obituary for Joyce Christine Opdyke (Knoster)

Joyce C. Opdyke, 85, of Delaware Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.

Born in Lambertville, Joyce lived in Lambertville until age 13, moved to Stockton until age 18, and lived in England for 2 years before returning to the area. Joyce was a graduate of Lambertville High School. She was a resident of Stockton and Delaware Township for over 60 years. Joyce owned and operated the Sunny Day Pre-School in Stockton for 23 years before retiring in 2006.

Joyce was an active member of the Stockton Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and a Deacon. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was the past secretary of the Rosemont Cemetery Association.

Joyce was from a large loving family. For 65 years Joyce was the devoted wife of the late Charles Richard “Dick” Opdyke. In all aspects of their lives, Joyce and Dick worked side by side, with their family, their church and their community service. She is survived by her children and their spouses Kristine and Kenneth Webb, Stephen C. and Lynn Opdyke, Richard J. “Skip” and Mary Jo Opdyke, Erik L. and Christine Opdyke, all of Delaware Township and Karin and Marc Hicks of Lambertville; Her grandchildren and their spouses Christopher (Ann) Webb, Aaron Webb, Luke (Sarah) Opdyke, Brett (Angela) Opdyke, Dan (Corrine) Opdyke, Michael (Heather) Opdyke, Danielle and Kylie Fine, Brody, Tucker and Jeffrey Hicks; her great-grandchildren Caitlin, Nora, Kinsley Rae, Sadie Grace, Stella, Eamon, Declan and Poppy Ann; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was the daughter of the late Rasmus C. and Phoebe Earle Knoster and the sister of the late Earl Knoster, Edward Knoster, Phyllis Bodine, Winifred Lowe, Gladys Seaman, Richard Knoster and Ruth Zambello.

Funeral services will be private.
