Marjorie Nelle  Crooks (Sims)
Marjorie Nelle Sims Crooks, 89, of Solebury, PA, died on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Doylestown Hospital, Doylestown, PA.

Born in Elizabeth, West Virginia, on July 10, 1926, Marjorie had been a Solebury resident since 1952. Marjorie was the daughter of the late Camden and Jessie Jobes Sims of Parkersburg, West Virginia. She graduated from Marshall College in Huntington, West Virginia, going on to become an elementary school teacher in her home state and later serving as a substitute teacher in the New Hope-Solebury District. Most of her life however was dedicated to her family, not only raising her own three children but later on playing a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was known for her unconditional kindness and she put her energy into celebrating life. Marjorie was committed to making the world a better place. She was a vital member of the Solebury Friends Meeting. In 1963 she and her family went to Algeria for two years with the American Friends Service Committee. There they started several health and educational programs in the newly independent country. She was a member of the Honey Hollow Water Shed Association, now managed by the Bucks County Audubon Society, where she was active in the organization’s conservation education programs. Marjorie had a lifelong love of singing and was an enthusiastic member of several local singing groups including a longtime membership with the Copper Penny Singers. She was a member of the Solebury Farmers Club and loved her water exercise class at the Doylestown YMCA.

She was the sister of the late Carolyn Rader (Raymond), John Sims (Betty Joan) and Nancy Webb (Neil). She is survived by her brother William Sims (Mary Anne) and her sister Betty Sue Wilson (Charles C.). She will be missed by her children Sylvia Dumas (Edward), Malcolm Lee Crooks (Tina Wise) and Catherine “Kitty” Crooks (Michael Dooley); her grandchildren Laura Cheetham (Andrew), Juliana Dumas, Jacob Dumas, Merlin Lars Crooks (Leila), Rylan Crooks (Andrea Bocchio), Jesse Crooks (Shannon Quinty), Elissa Maune (Derek), Daniel Crooks and Sophia Correa; her great-grandchildren Aria Cheetham, Phoebe and Georgia Crooks, Oliver Tuckamony Crooks, Abraham Maune and Eleanor Crooks. She was also the great-grandmother of the late Charlotte Crooks. Marjorie will be missed by many nieces and nephews including Rebecca Crooks (Paul Giordon), Forrest Crooks (Patricia) and Sharon Mendelson (Jon) and her dear friend and personal assistant Ursula Knorr. Marjorie’s kindness and sense of community will live in the memories of all those who knew her.

The will be a memorial service on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at 2 pm at the Solebury Friends Meeting, 2680 Sugan Road, New Hope, PA with a gathering afterwards.
