Obituary for George P. McAlevey

George P. McAlevey, 73, of Lambertville, New Jersey, died at home on Sunday, January 1, 2017.

Born in Queens, New York, George lived in Kew Gardens, prior to moving to Lambertville in 1999. He was a customer service representative for United Airlines, based at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He retired in 1993 after 28 years of service. He also worked as the weekend manager at Gebhardt’s Restaurant in Glendale, New York. After moving to Lambertville, George worked as a sales associate at Pinchpenny and Dresswell’s Clothing Store in Lambertville. George loved to sing and raised his voice with the College Point Schola Cantorum in New York. He later sang with the Copper Penny Players in New Hope. This awakened a joy in performing for George and he most recently acted and sang with the theater group at Phillips’ Mill in New Hope. George and his husband, Will, cherished their home and were gracious hosts to family and friends. George was an animal lover who made room in his home and his heart for the frailest of creatures. In recent years he worked as a dog sitter. George had a quick and gentle sense of humor. He loved travel, a glass of red wine at the end of the day and sharing stories with anyone who would listen. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

George is survived by his husband William W. Donnelly; his children Thomas R. McAlevey of Lambertville, Sean A. McAlevey of Fort Worth, TX, Jennifer C. Vollmuth and her husband Peter of Lindenhurst, and Alison Mahoney and her husband Brian of Holbrook, NY; his grandchildren Brian and Keira Mahoney and Jake, Jason and Sophia Vollmuth; his sister Claire Jockers of New York City; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.

A celebration of George’s life will be announced for a later date.
