Fred Nelson Dailey, 84, of West Amwell, New Jersey, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Flemington, New Jersey.
Born and raised in Baltimore, Fred attended Boys Latin School where he was top in his class. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from John Hopkins University. He proudly served with the US Army and National Guard. In the rank of Major, he was the commander of the Bel Air Maryland National Guard Unit. Fred had a nearly 40 year long career as an Industrial Engineer with the Bell group of companies, Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies, retiring 28 years ago. He had been a resident of West Amwell for over 50 years.
Fred was active in his community. He was a member of the Masonic Mount Moriah Lodge of Towson, MD where Fred was recently honored for 60 years of membership. He was a Past President and member of the West Amwell School Board. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts and coached the “Phillies” in the West Amwell Little League.
A man of faith, Fred was a liturgist with the Stockton Wesleyan Church for the last 17 years. Previously he was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Lambertville where he served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the Finance Committee and as the Chairman of the Administrative Board. Fred was devoted to his family, his church and his community. He was proud of his 61 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Janet, their family and the life they built together.
Fred was the son of the late Fred Nelson Dailey, Sr. and Helen Marie Sykes Dailey. He is survived by his wife Janet Eckers Dailey; his children and their spouses Gary N. Dailey and his wife Theresa of Stockton, Rebecca Yordy and her husband Bruce of Bensalem, PA and Suzanne Dailey of Bear, Delaware; his grandchildren and their spouses Samantha N. Billig and her husband Todd of Langhorne, PA, Daniel M. Dailey and his wife Amanda of Levittown, PA and Kelsey Youells of Bear, DE and his dear great-granddaughter Morgan Grace Billig of Langhorne.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11 am at the Old Rocks Church of West Amwell, 260 Mount Airy-Harbourton Road, Lambertville, NJ 08530.
