Obituary for Herbert Charles Haines

Herbert C. Haines, 75, of Stockton (Kingwood Township), NJ, died on Thursday, January 18, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. He had fought a valiant battle with metastatic lung cancer.

Born in Camden, Herb had been a resident of Kingwood Township for 40 years and had earlier resided in Delaware Township. He was employed by the New Jersey Department of Corrections until his retirement in 2002. He previously worked for the New Jersey State Police in West Trenton and as a young man for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC.

Herb was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He loved to seek out garage sales with his wife, Joy, planning their Saturdays to catch the latest bargains. He enjoyed Dungeons and Dragons and computer gaming with his grandsons. He treasured family vacations at the Jersey shore, especially Cape May and Sea Isle City. Walking the beach with his grandsons and sharing his knowledge and experience was one of Herb’s favorite pastimes. .

He was the son of the late Collins M. and Helen A. Steidler Haines. He is survived by his wife Joy Best Haines; his daughter and son-in-law Beth A. and Gregory A. Mattes and his grandsons Quinn A. Mattes and Jared A. Mattes all of Goffstown, NH

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 3pm at Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, PA 18938.
