Obituary for Ruth A Bacorn (Porter)

Ruth A. Bacorn, 88, of Lambertville, NJ, died on Thursday, August 29, 2019, at her home.

Born and raised in Three Bridges, NJ, Ruth came to Lambertville in 1961. She worked in food services at Lambertville Public School and at South Hunterdon High School. Ruth was a lifetime member and past president of the Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad’s Ladies’ Auxiliary. For many years Ruth managed the Ballroom at the Rescue Squad’s Building. She organized, planned menus and cooked for Rescue Squad events, events planned by outside organizations and for family occasions. She was an essential in the planning of many weddings, christenings, celebrations and funeral repasts. Her dedication and unflagging efforts raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Rescue Squad and for many other local organizations. The Lambertville-New Hope Rescue Squad honored Ruth with a special ceremony on the 45th anniversary of her auxiliary membership. Ruth also served as the treasurer for the Lambertville Drum and Bugle Corps and the Fleetwing Fire Company Auxiliary. Ruth was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church. She was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a troop leader for the Brownies and Girl Scouts. Ruth was an avid traveler and visited 49 of the 50 states. A devoted fan, Ruth cheered for Philadelphia Phillies and for the Brooklyn Dodgers, before they moved to the west coast.

Ruth was a dedicated wife and mother. She was the wife of the late Frank Bacorn; the mother of the late Roberta Snyder, the daughter of the late Fred and Mabel Hoagland Porter and the sister of the late Lee Snyder. She is survived by her children and their spouses William Snyder and his wife Bea of Blakeslee, PA. Sandra Kintzel of Frenchtown, Kenneth Bacorn and his wife Susan of Lambertville, Barry Bacorn and his wife Jennifer of Ringoes and Katherine Koci of Port St. Lucie; her grandchildren Annette Gunther (husband Jordan), Darrin Snyder (wife Amy), Melissa Cibula, Brandon Bacorn, Shelby Bacorn, Ashlyne Bacorn, Declan Bacorn and Ryleigh Bacorn; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11 am the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, New Jersey 08530. Interment Holcombe-Riverview Cemetery, Delaware Township, New Jersey.
