Helen Badiak, 69, of Lambertville, New Jersey, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Friday, January 29, 2021.

Born and raised in New York City, Helen was a graduate of Hunter College, City University of New York. Helen’s career brought her from New York’s “east village” to Plainsboro, New Jersey, and later to Lambertville over 30 years ago. She was a scientific writer with Bristol Myers Squibb Company in Princeton, retiring 10 years ago after 20 years of service. Helen loved Lambertville. She was active in town, was a member of the Kalmia Club and served on the board of the Mount Hope Cemetery Association. She was a nature lover, enjoyed hiking, gardening, bird watching or just walking into town. She loved animals and was often seen walking her beloved dog, Lucy, who was a successor to her golden retriever, Jefferson, and her two cats, Dante and Olivia.

Helen is survived by her sister Mary, her sister-in-law, two nephews and her cherished friends here and in New York City.

Family funeral services will be held at St. Andrew’s Church and Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Orange County, New York.

For those who wish to make a donation in Helen’s memory, her family requests that donations be made to your local animal shelter.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530 (

I first met Helen when I started working at Bristol-Myers Squibb in 1989. She was one of the smartest women I knew with a great sense of humor. After she retired I would visit her at her home in Lambertville and we would sit on her patio and enjoy her lovely garden. In recent years after I moved to Lambertville I would get a good workout walking up the hill to visit her. She loved her cats and dog, walking in the neighborhood, a good joke, Halloween and a fine glass of Prosecco. We had a lot of laughs over the years. My sincere sympathy to her sister Mary and the rest of the family.
