Obituary for Elwood D. "Woody" Pullen Jr.

Elwood D. Pullen, Jr., 82, of Lambertville, NJ, died on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his home.

Known to all as “Woody”, he was born in Trenton and grew up in Titusville along the Delaware. As a boy Woody loved the river and was an avid skier and swimmer. He served in the US Army as a chaplain’s assistant, stationed at Fort Hood in Texas. Following his military service Woody and his wife, Diane, made their home in Lambertville. Woody was a clerk at Finkle’s Hardware in Lambertville for 45 years. He was well known to all who stopped there by his smiling helpful presence and his ready wit. Woody was a member of the American Legion Toscanni Post and The Elks both in Lambertville. Woody was a gifted piano player. He loved old movies and was always ready with a joke. Woody was born on February 1, 1939 in Trenton General Hospital. His mother struck up a friendship with one of the other new mothers. Each gave birth to a son that day. The two boys, ,Woody and Warren "Tubby" Schmidt, grew up to be lifelong friends.

Woody was a devoted husband and father. He was the father of the late Eric. D. Pullen and the son of the late Elwood D. Pullen, Sr. and Evelyn Harle Pullen. He is survived by his wife Diane DeSau Wilson Pullen; his son and daughter-in-law Mark A. and Catalina Pullen of Hamilton, NJ; his daughter Lesley J. Pullen and her partner Douglas Hess of Lambertville; his sister Delores Clark of Hamilton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27 at 12 noon at Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08630.

Calling hours at the funeral home on Thursday morning from 10 am until the start of services.

Facial masks are required and social distancing guidelines must be observed.
