Obituary for Nancy P. Decker (Parks)
Nancy P. Decker, of Sergeantsville, NJ, died at her home on Sunday, May 22, 2022. She was 81 years old.
Born in Cornwall, New York, Nancy was a Sergeantsville resident for 54 years. Earlier she had lived in Park Ridge and Sea Girt, NJ. Nancy was an English teacher on the faculty of Hunterdon Central High School in Flemington for 26 years. She was very well liked and respected by her students and colleagues. She was passionate about helping her students learn more and strive to do better during their high school years and beyond. Nancy received her undergraduate degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY, her master’s degree in education from Tufts University and her master’s in library science from Rutgers University.
Following her retirement from education Nancy earned her real estate license and launched a second career with Weidel Real Estate in Flemington. For the next 29 years she again assisted another generation of people through their life transitions, buying new homes for expanding families or downsizing homes for empty nesters. Her clients trusted Nancy’s guidance and appreciated her knowledge, integrity and professionalism.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She faithfully attended her children’s and grandchildren’s school events, games or special occasions and supported them in their life pursuits. She always emphasized the value of education as a stepping stone to a successful life. She was a good friend to many and was always the first to extend a helping hand or a dose of pragmatic advice. She had a great sense of humor and would always use a play on words to make her jokes even better.
Nancy was an avid reader, loved researching her family ancestry and rarely missed Jeopardy. Sitting by the pool or at the beach with a good book was a great way to spend a summer afternoon. She also enjoyed cooking special dinners for her family.
Nancy was the daughter of the late Robert Emmett Parks and Isabel Bradley Parks. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years Dr. E. John Decker; her children Jennifer Weiderman and her husband Doug Koehler of Westlake Village, CA; Susannah Bowers and her husband James of Winchester, MA and John Robert Decker and his wife Deidre of Greenville, SC; and her grandsons Grant, Cole and Jackson Weiderman and Alexander and Andrew Bowers.
Funeral services will be private.
