Obituary for Jane Malczyk (Mieczkowski)

Jane Malczyk of Furlong, PA, passed away on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at home. She was 97 years old.

Born in Nanticoke, PA, Jane grew up as the youngest of 12 children, a large and loving family. During her long life she lived in several places including Delanson, NY, Southampton, PA and Wapwallopen, PA. She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. When her children were young she was a leader in 4H and Girl Scouts. An avid reader with a great appreciation for nature, Jane was an herbalist with deep knowledge of wild edible foods and plant based remedies. She volunteered at Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope and the Churchville Nature Center. Jane was instrumental in the establishment of the Tamanend Park Herb Garden and Herb Club in Southampton, PA. She was an animal lover and bird watcher. Jane was a gifted artisan and specialized in Pysanky, traditional Ukrainian Easter egg decoration.

Jane was the wife of the late Henry Ignatius Malczyk, the mother of the late Rosemary Keating Utley and the daughter of the late Adam and Josephine Mieczkowski. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Jeannine Mitchell and Stephen Dylinski; her son Thomas Malczyk; her grandchildren Sean Mount and his wife Allison Richard; Eric Mount; Peter Keating and his fiancé Katie Marie Braun; Matthew Keating and his wife Mary; Anna Keating and her partner James Costello; and Brad Schondelmeyer and his wife Beth. She was a loving great-grandmother to AJ Keating; Marigold Mount; Samuel, Stella and Simon Schondelmeyer. Jane is also survived by her many nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

A memorial celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 3 pm at Solebury Friends Meeting House, 2680 Sugan Road, New Hope, PA 18938.

A life celebration reception will follow immediately.

In lieu of flowers donations in Jane’s memory may be made to Tamanend Park, 1255 Second Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966. Please specify that donations are for the Herb Garden.
