Obituary for John Denis Pouy

John D. Pouy, 78, of Lawrenceville, NJ, died on Friday, September 30, 2022, at Capital Health, Hopewell Campus.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, John spent his early years in King of Prussia, PA. He lived in Leesburg, VA and Portal, AZ before returning to the area 2 years ago.

John was in computer sales with Unisys and SMC before retiring. A graduate of the University of Maryland his degree was in physics. Earlier he studied at Villanova University prior to his military service. John served in the US Air Force and was based in Libya.

John was a nature lover and enjoyed an active life. His many interests included woodworking, photography, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking and whitewater rafting. He was rarely idle. He loved sharing his activities with his children and grandchildren, spending time together, sending photographs and always keeping in touch.

He was the husband of the late Sheila Mulvey Pouy and the son of the late Robert and Mary Riordan Pouy. He is survived by his children and their spouses Christine Swan and her husband Doug of Chalfont, PA, Kathleen Pouy and her husband Matthew Egner of New Hope, PA and Kevin Pouy and his wife Toni of Lawrenceville, NJ; his step-daughter Jessica Pretty of Cordova, AK; his grandchildren Dylan Swan of Chalfont, PA, Emily Mathis and her husband Michael of Lansdale, PA and Sylvia Pouy of Lawrenceville; his brothers and their wives George and Carol Pouy of La Mesa, NM, Michael and Toni Pouy of Purcellville, VA, Robert and Agnes Pouy of Atchison, KS and Steven and Karen Pouy of West Orange, NJ and many nieces and nephews.

Committal services with military honors will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 10 am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Attendees should gather at the cemetery’s administrative building at 9:45 am.

There will be calling hours on Thursday evening, October 13, 2022, from 6 to 8 pm at the Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, 21 York Street, Lambertville, NJ 08530. (vhmfh.com).

In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018 (donations should be indicated in memory of John D. Pouy, and directed towards servicing the South Eastern Pennsylvania region).
