Gerald M. Rygg, 76, of Lambertville, NJ, died on Friday, November 11, 2016 at Atlantic Health-Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ.
Born in Mayville, North Dakota, Jerry had been a Lambertville resident for 15 years. He was a graduate of North Dakota State University and an accomplished mechanical engineer. A veteran of the Viet Nam War, Jerry served with US Navy as a flight navigator for two tours of duty in Southeast Asia. Jerry was a man of gentle humor and had many interests. He generously used those interests to serve the greater community. He loved to cook and his Peking duck was a family favorite. He cooked his famous waffles and pancakes each Sunday at the Community Kitchen at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Lambertville. A history buff with a special interest in the US Presidents, Jerry volunteered as a guide at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. He enjoyed carpentry and construction projects, landscaping and travel. Just this year he visited his grandfather’s farm in Norway for the first time. Most of all, Jerry treasured time with his family. He doted on his granddaughter, Ruby, and together they launched many carefully designed paper airplanes.
He was the son of the late David B. and Frances McClaflin Rygg, He is survived by his wife Nancy E. (Gillenwaters) Rygg; his step-son and daughter-in-law Scott and Rachel Hezlep of Rutledge, PA; his daughters Sarah Kate Rygg of Drexel Hill, PA and Molly Rygg of Cambodia and her partner Jonas Fredholm; his granddaughter Ruby Hezlep; his sister and her husband Janice and Douglas Richman of Tower City, ND; his brother and his wife David and Marty Rygg of Sacramento, CA. At the time of his passing Gerry was looking forward to the birth of his second grandchild.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 18 at 1 pm at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 108 N. Union Street, Lambertville, New Jersey 08530.
Calling hours will be held at the church from 12 noon until the start of services.
