Obituary for Terry Meddock

Terry  Meddock
Dr. Terry D. Meddock, 71, of New Hope, PA, died on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Chandler Hall Hospice in Newtown, PA.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Terry lived in Philadelphia before moving to New Hope in 1990. A professor of special education at Temple University in Philadelphia, Terry prepared young teachers for the challenges of their profession. He was a dedicated mentor and took great pride in his students educating children across the spectrum of disabilities. He was also an accomplished researcher, publishing several papers. He retired in 2006 after 33 years at Temple. Terry earned his undergraduate degree in psychology from Miami University in Ohio, publishing research developed as an undergraduate in the journal Psychonomic Science. He received his master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he studied child behavior under the esteemed developmental psychologist Sidney W. Bijou.

Terry’s beloved partner of 36 years, W. Edward Wheeler, died on April 5, 2018 with Terry by his side. Together Terry and Ed enjoyed watching tennis, sharing cocktails at The Raven, and traveling to Atlantic City, Rehoboth Beach, and London, England. Terry was an avid reader and loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Terry will be remembered with great love by family and dear friends. He is survived by his children and their spouses Shannon Kane-Meddock and her husband Mathieu of Philadelphia, PA and Derek Kane-Meddock and his wife Gillian of Brooklyn, NY; his grandchildren Max, Charlotte, and Zoe; his sisters Marilyn Jackson and Marsha Meddock, his brother Gary Meddock, an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends, and his former wife Pamela. In addition to Ed, Terry was pre-deceased by his parents Robert Dodds Meddock, Sr. and Mary Alice Fox Meddock and his brothers Jerry Meddock and Robert Dodds Meddock, Jr.

A memorial gathering for both Terry and Ed will be held at The Raven (385 W. Bridge Street, New Hope, PA 18938) on Saturday, May 12 at 2pm. Donations in Terry’s memory may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org).
