Obituary

Michael John Brady, 76, died peacefully on January 9th at his home in New Hope, PA surrounded by his loving family, near a warm fire.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Debby (née Denby), his four children, Erin (Jeff Day), Sean (Karen White), Bridget (Ben Albucker), and Seth (Erin Hesser); four grandchildren, Quin, Phoebe, Jack, and Jesse; dogs (Mia and Lincoln); horses (Ouija, Willow, and Gracie); and sheep (Beatrice and Anna).

Born to Angela (née Tedesco) and Francis ‘Red’ Brady in Newark, NJ on February 19, 1944, Michael was raised in Luzerne, PA with his younger brother, Frank (d. 2012). He was raised alongside many cousins from both his Irish and Italian families. Michael attended Central Catholic High School where he was a perpetual challenger of the nun’s authority and a notable student-athlete. After graduating from Kings College and studying philosophy at the University of Pennsylvania, Michael started his formal career at Solebury School where he held countless roles: English teacher, dorm parent, coach, advisor, and Dean of Students. He also shared his passion for the outdoors by leading backpacking and rock-climbing trips. Together with Debby, they opened their home to students in need of more familial support.

Michael eventually left teaching and enjoyed a 30+ year career consulting at Computer Sciences Corporation where he ultimately became a senior partner. In his career at CSC, he was a mentor, a trusted colleague, and highly esteemed in his field. He traveled, often internationally, and enjoyed the challenges the work provided.

Michael planted his roots with his family on Sycamore Farm in New Hope, PA – a treasured family homestead, for the better part of a century. For 30 years, he spent his downtime on the farm splitting wood, fighting back the multiflora rose, caring for all the creatures at the family petting zoo, and taking long walks with his wife, dogs, family, and friends. He also cherished summers spent in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior.

Once retired, Michael dedicated his time and enthusiasm to his passion for land preservation. Volunteering as the monitor of the Land Trust of Bucks County, he would become the President of the Trust and member of the board.

Michael was driven by curiosity and would speak at length about literature, history, science, and philosophy. More important to him, however, was the well-being and dignity of every individual, particularly those whose voices had been ignored. His warmth, kindness, and good humor will be missed by all.

Due to the pandemic, an in-person memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Land Trust of Bucks County (http://landtrustbuckscounty.org/.donate.cfm) or Seeding Sovereignty (https://secure.acceptiva/?cst=66aaa5)..
